Accomplishments and Awards
Mid Coast Hospital is committed to providing the highest quality healthcare to patients and families in the communities we serve.
The Joint Commission Accreditation
The hospital is proud to be accredited by the Joint Commission—formerly, the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. This independent, not-for-profit group accredits and certifies more than 15,000 health care organizations in the U.S. and its seal of approval is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality.
Our hospital is committed to meeting the Joint Commission’s established performance standards. Accreditation helps our patient care team continually improve its performance and demonstrate accountability in the rapidly changing healthcare field.
Magnet Recognition For Nursing Excellence
Mid Coast Hospital is recognized as a Magnet® facility by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for exceptional nursing and patient care, the highest level of recognition that nursing services can achieve. We are the only community hospital in Maine to have achieved national recognition as a Magnet Hospital; an honor bestowed on less than 7 percent of hospitals in the country. The American Nurses Credentialing Center awards Magnet status to hospitals that exhibit exemplary patient outcomes and satisfaction, have impressive nurse-to-patient ratios, and attract and retain the best nursing staff.
Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers
The Joint Commission, in conjunction with The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, has recognized Mid Coast Hospital with Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers. The certification demonstrates the hospital’s ability to provide the most advanced level of care to stroke patients.
Commission on Cancer Accreditation with Commendation
Receiving care at a CoC-accredited cancer program ensures that a patient will have access to quality care close to home; comprehensive care with state-of-the-art services and equipment; a multi-specialty team approach to coordinate the best treatment options available; information about cancer clinical trials and new treatment options; access to cancer-related information, education and support; ongoing monitoring and improvement of care, and lifelong patient follow-up through a cancer registry that collects data on type and stage of cancers and treatment results.
The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Score
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits, has honored Mid Coast Hospital with an "A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM. The Hospital Safety Score was calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections. The Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe.
