The annual Gold Star Standards of Excellence Hospital and Healthcare Organization Program Awardees have been announced for 2021, with all MaineHealth hospitals receiving recognition. The program of the MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence’s Breathe Easy Initiative recognized 32 hospitals, eight healthcare organizations and one individual Gold Star Champion for efforts to address tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure.
   
During this week of gratitude, Mid Coast Hospital would like to thank our community for your ongoing support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our care team members are working extremely hard doing everything they can to care for our community. Your kindness and compassion during this difficult time makes a difference. Currently, we are in the midst of a surge of the COVID-19 Delta variant in the communities we serve, with Mid Coast Hospital caring for the highest number of COVID-19-positive patients since the pandemic began.
   
Recognizing the importance of visitors to the wellbeing of patients, Mid Coast Hospital has updated its policy on visiting and escorting patients. This policy is an update to the Visitor Restrictions which began on Friday, March 20, 2020 and were most recently updated on October 4, 2021. This update will take effect on November 22, 2021 and shall remain in effect until further notice.
   
In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary is excited to announce the release of a new collaborative cookbook, Our Community Table. Proceeds of the cookbook sales will help raise funds to support important Mid Coast Hospital projects.
   
Franklin Memorial Hospital, Maine Medical Center, Mid Coast Hospital, Pen Bay Medical Center and Southern Maine Health Care have each received a Fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade of ‘A.’ This is the second fall in a row that all five eligible MaineHealth hospitals received the highest hospital safety grade that Leapfrog offers.
   
Mid Coast Hospital has announced the launch of its 2021 Annual Giving Campaign. Campaign Co-Chairs James P. Rines, MD, and his wife Michelle Rines, RN, MSN have seen first-hand the important role philanthropy has played in delivering high-quality healthcare during their combined 60 years of experience as healthcare leaders.
   
As of November 2, COVID-19 vaccine eligibility has expanded. The CDC recommends that children age 5 to 11 years old be vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Pfizer-BioNTech pediatric vaccine. Currently, Mid Coast Hospital is providing COVID-19 vaccination for children 5-11 years old only.
