Mid Coast–Parkview Health was recognized at the gold level in this year’s Maine Tobacco-Free Hospital Network Gold Star Standards of Excellence Recognition Program. At the awards ceremony held last week in Augusta, Mid Coast Hospital's Tobacco Educator Stacey Schmidt, RRT, received a gold level recognition plaque on behalf of the health system.
Mid Coast Hospital has launched its 2015 Annual Giving Campaign. Each year, this campaign seeks to establish and grow strong philanthropic partnerships with community members, businesses, patients, and families. As a non-profit organization, Mid Coast Hospital uses the donations to offset the rising costs of healthcare, allow for investments in technology and training, and to increase access to medical care for all.
The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit organization representing employers and purchasers of health care, has once again honored Mid Coast Hospital with an “A” Hospital Safety Score. Mid Coast has received an A rating each of the seven times the Hospital Safety Score has been released since the spring of 2012.
Vicki Koehler, RN, COHN-S, Employee Health Nurse Manager at Mid Coast Hospital, was one of two recipients of the Rising Tide Award at the 6th Annual Patient Safety Academy on September 23. Held on the University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus, the Patient Safety Academy is an annual interdisciplinary meeting that brings together healthcare professionals, students, academics, and consumer advocates to explore best practices in patient safety and quality improvement.
Access Health, the local Healthy Maine Partnership coordinated by Mid Coast Hospital, has received two federal grants focused on mental health and substance abuse prevention in Sagadahoc County, Brunswick and Harpswell. Both grants have been awarded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for work to begin October 1.
Mid Coast Hospital has been recognized as a “Best Regional Hospital” and as one of the two best hospitals in Maine by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-16. The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 26th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients. Mid Coast has been named the number two hospital in the state, and one of only two hospitals in Maine that met national high performing standards earning the distinction of “Best Regional Hospital” alongside Maine Medical Center in Portland.
