The Healing Environment List

Through our healing environment project, we build upon the hospital's natural setting while working with local artists to provide symbols, spaces, and surroundings that join body and spirit, science and healing.

Hospital design takes full advantage of the surrounding woods, outcroppings of ledge, and habitat for wildlife. Large windows bring that natural beauty into public spaces and patient rooms.

Tile Project
Young Artist Tile Painting Project

During 2000 and 2001, students in 16 area schools participated in a special project hand painting ceramic tiles. These young artists were asked to paint a message of their choosing for the patients, families and staff of the new Mid Coast Hospital.

Along with landscaping, a healing garden will be created this summer with carefully chosen plantings, indigenous rocks, flowing water, and comforting green space. The garden is a gift of the Mid Coast Hospital Bath and Brunswick Auxiliaries.
Maine artists are creating nature-inspired works that bring comfort and peace. These inspiring pieces are funded entirely by private donations.
A beautiful meditation room, made possible by a contributor, brings together fine woodworking, soaring stained glass, a peaceful sculpture and other natural elements, poetic inscriptions and natural lighting.

800 child painted ceramic tiles. Students in grades 2-6 from 16 area schools are painting ceramic tiles, with help from their art specialists and area artists, with overall guidance from Karen Wolfe, from the West Bath Elementary School. These tiles will be grouped and displayed in public corridors.

The healing powers of nature will also be an important element of the overall patient care plan within the new hospital.

This Healing Environment Project is funded entirely by private donations.
