Expansion Plans
How Mid Coast Hospital is Growing
Mid Coast Hospital has experienced an increasing demand for services from the time our new facility opened, in 2001. Our patients have shown confidence in us, for which we are very grateful. But as a result, we are at or near capacity in our surgical inpatient unit, our emergency department and our diagnostic imaging department.
In 2007, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, approved a Certificate of Need for expansion. The expansion will result in an additional 18 hospital beds and a new, redesigned emergency room. The old ER will be repurposed to provide additional space for diagnostic imaging, including rooms for preparation, consultation and recovery. Construction is underway and is slated for completion in early 2010.
