COVID-19 Update: Information about Testing

Greetings to our community, and we hope this message finds you well. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold, we have some important updates to share with you.

By now, we hope you are aware that Mid Coast–Parkview Health has resumed time-sensitive care and that our facilities are fully prepared to care for your healthcare needs safely. Maintaining the health and safety of our patients, staff, and community members is always our highest priority, and each of our facilities have implemented enhanced safety measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Please know that your preventive care needs are included in that promise. If you have a chronic illness that requires ongoing care, our providers are here and able to accommodate your needs. Likewise, if you are waiting for a preventive procedure such as a mammogram or colonoscopy, or require immunizations or lab work, we can help you.

If any of the previously mentioned circumstances apply to you, or if you had an appointment cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask that you contact your primary care provider. He or she can discuss which procedures are needed to maintain your health. If you would rather not leave the house, our providers also offer telehealth visits, which allow you to be seen by a provider from the comfort of your home. If your provider thinks you should be seen in person, he or she will refer you to the appropriate care setting.

We would also like to take this opportunity to address the availability of COVID-19 testing throughout the Mid Coast–Parkview Health network.

Governor Janet Mills recently announced that beginning July 1, the state will expand its testing capacity beyond what is currently available. As described, the expanded capacity will include developing additional testing locations available to the public, tourists, seasonal workers, and other visitors to Maine, with or without symptoms. More details regarding the state’s plan for expanded testing are available here.

While it is understandable that many Mainers and visitors are eager to be tested for the virus, because of the supply of testing kits available today, Mid Coast Hospital is currently only able to test patients who have symptoms of COVID-19. We are also testing patients before they undergo surgery or medical procedures at our facilities and anyone admitted to Mid Coast Hospital. As we learn more about testing availability for people without symptoms, we will let you know. You can also visit https://get-tested-covid19.org to find a testing site near you.

If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, we ask that you contact your primary care provider before coming to the Mid Coast Hospital Walk-In Clinic or Emergency Department. He or she can then review your symptoms and direct you to a site for further evaluation or order a COVID-19 test. Our COVID-19 Information Line is also available to answer questions and provide guidance by calling (207) 373-6699.

If you do not have a local provider and are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath, our Walk-In Clinic is available to assess your symptoms and obtain a test. Throughout this pandemic, our Walk-In Clinic has been here, with emergency-trained providers delivering expert care for minor medical concerns, and they also offer telehealth consultations. To view wait times and check in online, visit www.midcoasthealth.com/walkin.

A reminder that anyone in our community who needs a mask for themselves or a loved one is welcome to pick one up at Mid Coast Hospital’s Parkview Campus, located at 329 Maine Street–South Entrance in Brunswick, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. For those who like to sew, we are still accepting donations of fabric masks. We are grateful to the many volunteers who have been sewing and donating cloth masks since the onset of COVID-19.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during these unprecedented times, and we continue to be deeply grateful for the support of our community as we face this pandemic together. Have a wonderful week.
