Seven Mid Coast Hospital physicians were recently honored for their supervision of Tufts University School of Medicine/Maine Medical Center (TUSM/MMC) Longitudinal Integrated Curriculum (LIC) students at Mid Coast Hospital.
Ira A. Bird, MD, Lawrence Fischman, MD, Nathaniel W. Hyde, MD, Tatyana Karchov, MD, Stephanie A. Phelps, MD, James P. Rines, MD, and Jeffrey R. Stenzel, MD, received Citations for Excellence in Teaching in the LIC from Tufts University School of Medicine.
Mid Coast Hospital has participated as a training site for the TUSM/MMC LIC program since 2011. Through this program medical students explore multiple medical disciplines including OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and General Surgery. The intensive program allows students to fulfill their third-year core competencies while offering a uniquely broad view of the variety of comprehensive care patients receive throughout life.
Marybeth Ford, MD, directs the LIC program at Mid Coast Hospital. "Many of our providers have received Citations for Outstanding Teaching in the past,” she stated. "To have so many of our preceptors recognized again this year is indeed an honor. It attests to the dedication and professionalism not only of these providers, but to the organization’s commitment to medical education as a whole.”
