Mid Coast Hospital Stages Community Wide Disaster Drill

Mid Coast Senior Health Center leaders participate in community-wide disaster drill on Wednesday, September 27.

Mid Coast Hospital and Mid Coast Senior Health, along with community partners, took part in a full-scale mass-casualty drill on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. The disaster preparedness drill tests the preparedness and response of local, regional, and state agencies in a potential crisis.

The event, coordinated by Mid Coast Hospital Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Michael May, RN, focused on a response plan for an actual disaster. It was conducted in collaboration with staff and volunteers from Mid Coast Hospital, Mid Coast Senior Health Center, Brunswick Fire Department, Topsham Fire Department, Cumberland and Sagadahoc County Emergency Management Agency, and Bowdoin College.

Mid Coast Hospital Volunteer Gerry Orem participates in a community-wide disaster drill held on Wednesday, September 27 at Mid Coast Hospital.
"As a Joint Commission accredited hospital, Mid Coast has a comprehensive disaster response plan,” said May. "Conducting periodic drills helps to ensure readiness and response capacity. Testing our process and looking for ways to improve, trains and prepares us in the event of an actual emergency or disaster.”
