Parkview Campus Café Reopens

Mid Coast Hospital is currently undergoing a $6.2 million renovation of the former hospital located at the Parkview campus. During the renovation period, the café was temporarily closed to allow for inventory and evaluation of procedures and efficiencies. After a considerable amount of hard work, the Food & Nutrition Services team is excited to have reopened the café at Parkview on February 13.

During the café downtime, the Food & Nutrition Services team worked closely with Senior Leadership to create guiding principles for the café that align with food services offered at the Mid Coast Hospital café while honoring the traditions of the former hospital with an emphasis on healthy nutrition. As a result, difficult decisions were made in order to allow for the café to remain a part of this facility.

Highlights of the newly reopened Parkview Café include:

  • The Parkview Café is now open Monday – Friday, from 7 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and no longer closes midday, allowing guests continuous access to hot and cold beverages, snacks, and grab-and-go items.
  • Fresh vegetarian soups are made on-site every day and are available in multiple sizes.
  • A hot lunch entrée with sides is available daily, incorporating seasonal vegetables, whole grains, and fresh products.
  • Grab-and-go salads and sandwiches are prepared on-site daily. Selections will rotate offering flavorful and seasonal choices such as Greek salad, Mediterranean vegetable wrap, strawberry feta salad, and fall vegetables.
  • All freshly made items are now labeled with ingredients and nutrition facts to assist individuals with making healthy choices, as well as addressing special dietary needs or allergies.
  • Gluten-free options are now available and sandwiches can be made using gluten-free bread on request.
  • Complimentary Wicked Joe decaf coffee and hot tea is available during operating hours.

The weekly Parkview Café menu is published online at www.midcoasthealth.com/parkview-cafe.

Former Parkview Café patrons will notice the following changes at the Parkview Café:

  • Due to the added amount of preparation and cooking time required, we have discontinued made-to-order and hot breakfast items. Yogurt, fresh cut fruit, granola, oatmeal, hard-boiled eggs, and other items are available for a healthy breakfast to start off the day.
  • The amount of hot food items prepared is based on consumption. As more people begin to visit the café, more food will be prepared and served in order to accommodate all guests.
  • Soda and other sugar-sweetened beverage are no longer available as we move toward offering new flavorful and healthful options.
  • The make-your-own salad bar has been replaced with pre-made salads that are prepared fresh in the café daily. You will see an improvement in variety of the choices offered, as well as updates to the hot entrée menu options.

As we continue with the renovations to the campus, and as patients, staff, and visitor numbers increase, we will be evaluating Café usage and requests to ensure we are best meeting the food needs of individuals at the Parkview Campus. We are very excited to continue to offer food selections and healthy dining options at the Parkview Campus and thank you for your understanding about the changes that we have made.
