Mid Coast Hospital Observes Mental Illness Awareness Week
Christina Solak-Goodwin Book Reading and Signing to be Held on October 11, 2012
In observance of Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 7-13), Mid Coast Hospital will be holding a book reading and signing by Christina Solak-Goodwin of her book, Battling Bipolar Disorder: A Memoir.
This free event will be held on Thursday, October 11, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., at Mid Coast Hospital Café Conference Room 3, located at 123 Medical Center Drive in Brunswick.
In Battling Bipolar Disorder: A Memoir, Goodwin graphically describes the pain, despair, and hopelessness of suffering from mental illness for seventeen years. She also describes the inner workings of mental institutions, suicidal plans, and the relationships the bipolar patient has with her family and mental health doctors.
One in four adults experiences a mental health problem in any given year. One in 17 lives with serious, chronic illness. Mental Illness Awareness Week is an opportunity to learn more about serious mental illnesses such as major depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.
During the event, National Alliance on Mental Illness–Bath/Brunswick will have a resource table and volunteers available to answer questions and provide more information.
