Lee Silverman Voice Treatment

Lee Silverman Voice TreatmentWhat is LSVT?

LSVT is an intensive speech therapy treatment that focuses on the voice to improve or maintain vocal strength and loudness. Our therapists use LSVT when working with clients who have Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s disease affects an individual’s voice and breathing. Its effect on the voice may include any or all of the following:

  • Monotone voice
  • Reduced loudness/volume
  • Irregular voice rate
  • Impaired intelligibility

Evaluation and Treatment Plan

If you or a loved one is experiencing difficulty in speaking due to Parkinson’s disease, contact our LSVT-certified speech and language pathologist for an appointment. At your appointment, our specialist will perform a diagnostic evaluation. Our specialist will then work closely with your neurologist or primary care physician to design a customized treatment plan to meet your individual needs.

Following your comprehensive evaluation, your program will include:

  • An intensive month-long (16 sessions) treatment aimed at improving and/or maintaining vocal intensity
  • Home program of exercises and lessons
  • Teaching of maintenance skills
  • Resource information on how to manage Parkinson’s Disease

Your therapist will keep you and your physician apprised of the progress and results of your treatment.
