What is LSVT?
LSVT is an
intensive speech therapy treatment that focuses
on the voice to improve or maintain vocal strength
and loudness. Our therapists use LSVT when working
with clients who have Parkinson’s disease.
Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s disease affects
an individual’s voice and breathing. Its effect
on the voice
may include
any or all of the following:
- Monotone voice
- Reduced loudness/volume
- Irregular voice rate
- Impaired intelligibility
Evaluation and Treatment
Plan
If you or a loved one
is experiencing difficulty in speaking due to
Parkinson’s disease, contact
our LSVT-certified speech and language
pathologist for an appointment. At your appointment,
our specialist will perform a diagnostic
evaluation.
Our specialist
will then work closely with your neurologist
or primary care physician to design a customized
treatment
plan to meet your individual needs.
Following your comprehensive
evaluation, your program will include:
- An intensive month-long
(16 sessions) treatment aimed at improving
and/or maintaining
vocal
intensity
- Home program of exercises and lessons
- Teaching of maintenance skills
- Resource information
on how to manage Parkinson’s Disease
Your therapist will keep
you and your physician
apprised of the progress
and results of
