GREAT CONFLUENCE RACE, FUN RUN, NATURE TRAIL
GATHER CROWDS
Over 150 runners for the 5K and 10K races with and equal number in Fun Run. Nature Trail and Brunwick FD's ladder truck also gathered large groups.


More than 150 "serious" runners participated in the the Sixth Annual Great Confluence Race 10K/5K on the Saturday before Thanksgiving while an equal number participated in the one mile Fun Run associated with the race and part of Family Fitness Day Activities. Race Results will be posted on www.midcoasthealth.com/race.

The Fun Run one mile challenge on the grounds of Mid Coast Hospital has grown each year with both youth and adults taking part. A special patch is given to each fun runner certifying his or her participation in fitness activities.

There is also glory--the first boy and girl finisher received a much coveted Division Winner barrel mug like division winners in 10 and 5 kilometers. And their is profit: the top 100 Fun Runners receive a ticket to the Regal movie theatres.

"It's an idea to encourage physical activity, encourage participation in this great race, and to recognize those who make the commitment," says Mike L'Abbe, one of the race organizers. "If you play soccer or ultimate, hike, bike, or run just twice each week, you are eligible for the patch recognition," he says, "without regard to age."

The Fun Run began at a very civilized 10 a.m. as the distance competitors are finishing their race. The run is along a cross country trail going down a wooded road starting from the hospital race central tent. The big races bean at 9 a.m.

Another new twist added this year. The hospital promoted its nature trail healthy walk. The one mile circuit begain with stretching exercises.
