Mid Coast Hospital Named to 2010 Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Honor Roll

Mid Coast Hospital has been named to the 2010 Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Hospital Honor Roll for the continuing success and commitment to its quality improvement initiatives.

The Honor Roll recognizes hospitals whose performance is among the top 25% of hospitals measured nationally on a broad set of quality metrics, as reported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on Hospital Compare and Leapfrog patient safety measures. Mid Coast is one of seven hospitals in Maine selected for the Honor Roll and one of 40 in New England.

"We are thrilled to be recognized by Harvard Pilgrim for our ongoing efforts at excellence in caring for our patients," said Lois Skillings, RN, Mid Coast Health Services Executive Vice President. "Being selected for this award is another clear example of the commitment by our team to ensure confidence in the community that Mid Coast provides exceptional patient care."

To determine the Honor Roll, Harvard Pilgrim used CMS quality data in the treatment of heart attack and chest pain, heart failure, pneumonia, and the surgical care improvement project. Leapfrog data were used in comparing the prevention of medical errors, appropriate ICU staffing, steps to avoid harm, and the reduction of in-hospital injuries.
