Sleep Care

American Academy of Sleep Medicine

The Mid Coast Hospital Center for Sleep Medicine provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of sleep problems including difficulty falling or staying asleep, apnea, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome and other treatable sleep problems.

Focused on Better Sleep

Our experienced care team uses advanced diagnostic tools in a comfortable testing environment to identify a full range of sleep problems. Talk to your primary care provider if you experience:

  • Feeling sleepy during the day
  • Having difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Waking up feeling unrefreshed
  • Snoring or experiencing a pause in breathing while sleeping
  • Sleep walking or other conditions that interrupt your sleep

Sleep Studies

Sleep studies provide a complete evaluation of your sleep. They painlessly monitor your brain activity, heart rate, breathing, muscle activity, snoring and oxygen levels while you are asleep. In most cases, you will stay overnight at the Mid Coast Hospital Center for Sleep Medicine. Some patients with suspected sleep apnea may instead receive equipment to perform an at-home test.

Sleep studies may be used to:

  • Test for sleep-related breathing disorders such as sleep apnea
  • Evaluate sleep behaviors
  • Diagnose conditions such as narcolepsy
  • Review and test pressure levels for patients receiving CPAP therapy

Testing may also include an electroencephalogram (EEG) to monitor your brain activity or an electrocardiogram (EKG) to monitor your heart activity. Daytime studies are also available, which can be beneficial to shift workers who normally sleep during the day.
