If you have ever wondered what a flu virus or a Streptococcus bacterium looks like, Michele Marshall would be the person to ask. Michele is the hospital’s lead technologist in Microbiology and the Laboratory Coordinator. In addition to her microbiology work, Michele helps to coordinate continuing education and proficiency testing for laboratory staff, does laboratory scheduling and also serves as a resource for general lab questions. She sits on three hospital committees and is an active participant in several national and state microbiology organizations, where she learns about new organisms, drug-resistance trends, and treatments for bacterial and viral diseases. Michele holds a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Rochester (NY) Institute of Technology. She interned and then worked as a laboratory generalist at Saint Paul Ramsey Medical Center, St. Paul, Minnesota. Michele worked at Methodist hospital and the Park Nicollet Health System in St. Louis Park, Minnesota right before returning to Maine. Having grown up in Maine, she was very happy to have the opportunity to return here to raise her own family. "I wasn’t sure that I would be happy working in a community hospital after all those years in the city, but I quickly learned to love working at Mid Coast. Even though Mid Coast is much smaller than the hospitals in Minnesota, it offers a wide variety of testing and I have seen things here that I never got to see in the city.” Return to Mid Coast Hospital home page |
