Young patients in trauma situations at Mid Coast Hospital receive a new Teddy bear (or stuffed animal) in times of need and treatment. This program, formerly with the Development Department, is now a project of the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary and supported by businesses, schools and organizations in our communities, as well as the Auxiliary and junior volunteers.
The Auxiliary has contracted with Grampa’s Garden of Brunswick to manufacture custom designed MCH Teddy bears made by local artisans in their cottage industry. Bath Iron Workers heavily supported these bears in the spring of 2013, for which the Auxiliary is extremely grateful. The iron workers generosity to children in trauma was outstanding.
Hospital junior volunteers in the summer sponsor a bake sale to benefit the purchase of bears, usually raising over $600, to help the young patients with whom they may come in contact when they are volunteering.
Community organizations and businesses who wish to sponsor events to benefit these bears are welcome to call the Volunteer Services office at (207) 373-6015 for more information, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
