at Maine's Mid Coast Hospital
Childhood obesity is one of Mid Coast Hospital's priority health issues. As the local dissemination partner for 5-2-1-0 Let's Go!, we assist local schools and daycares with promoting healthy eating and physical activity to combat this growing health concern.
The 5-2-1-0 Let's Go! is a statewide program that encourages children to make healthy choices that include: eating five or more fruits and vegetables per day, limiting screen time to two hours per day, engaging in one hour or more of physical activity per day and limiting sugar sweetened beverages to zero by choosing water or low fat milk instead.
As part of the Let's Go! Initiative, the hospital has created a StoryWalk® based on the book Wild Animal Alphabet, by Dahlov Ipcar. The StoryWalk is a portable resource available to local schools and community partners for use to promote physical activity and literacy among in our community.
