How You Can Help
Mid Coast Hospital is working to ensure that our patients and employees are kept as safe and protected as possible from the COVID-19 virus. Community members have asked us what they can do to help. Please find key ways to help listed below. Mid Coast Hospital is very grateful for any level of assistance you can provide, and we are so appreciative of the community's support.
Physical Distancing
Social or physical distancing is a measure recommended by the Center for Disease Control to stop the spread of COVID-19. Social distancing techniques have also been used in the past during other virus outbreaks.
In the case of COVID-19, social distancing means avoiding crowds, and making sure to maintain at least six feet of physical distance between you and other people. In our community, we have seen social distancing implemented through school closures, event cancellations, and many people being told to work from home.
Social distancing strategies have been put in place to slow the transmission of COVID-19 or “flatten the curve.” They will help slow down the spread of the disease and allow the health care system to more readily care for patients over time.
While we are so appreciative of generous requests to donate food during this extraordinary time, in support of social distancing and visitor restrictions to slow the spread of COVID-19, we please ask that no one send care packages to our clinical team or visit Mid Coast–Parkview Health facilities right now. Instead, we would like to defer donations of food to the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program.
Fabric Masks
The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends people wear cloth face coverings in indoor public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, or public transportation.
We are grateful to the many volunteers who have been sewing cloth masks since the onset of COVID-19. For those who like to sew, we are still accepting donations of fabric masks. For sewing instructions, visit www.cdc.gov/coronavirus and click on Cloth face covers.
In order ensure that everyone is adhering to CDC guidance, we have been distributing fabric masks to family members, partner organizations, corporators, and volunteers. Anyone who needs a mask for themselves or a loved one is welcome to pick one up.
Masks can be picked up or dropped off just inside the Main Entrance of Mid Coast Hospital’s Parkview building, located at 329 Maine Street–South Entrance in Brunswick, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday - Friday. To arrange mailing, please call (207) 373-6064.
Medical Supply Donations
As consistent with healthcare organizations across the nation, Mid Coast Hospital is preparing for shortages of some medical supplies, including personal protective equipment, during this outbreak of COVID-19.
In the event that the supply shortages continue to drop, we are proactively pursuing untraditional means and asking for the community’s assistance. We are currently asking for donations of new and unused:
- N95 Masks (usually made by 3M or Kimberly Clark but we will accept any brand)
- Paper masks (with ties or elastic)
- Paper protective gowns
- Protective glasses/goggles (can be previously used)
- Nitrile gloves
Medical supplies donations are now being centrally coordinated through MaineHealth. This will help direct resources appropriately and make sure your donation is best utilized. Please visit https://mainehealth.org/donate to complete a brief form, and someone will contact you directly regarding drop off locations.
Childcare Support
We are developing a directory of individuals who may be willing and able to provide in-home supervision for children of healthcare workers who must continue to work during this challenging time. Learn more: https://mainehealth.org/healthy-communities/coronavirus/child-care-connection
Food Donations
Mid Coast–Parkview Health is partnering with local restaurants and food vendors to provide meals to our care team members at Mid Coast Hospital, Mid Coast Medical Group, Mid Coast Senior Health, and CHANS Home Health & Hospice.
