MC1 - Our Advanced Life
Support Program Did
you know?
Mid Coast Hospital's Advanced
Life Support Program began in 1997. The
program provides
paramedic support to area community and
volunteer rescue teams who request it,
24/7. MC1's
service area is Wiscasset to Freeport
and includes Georgetown and Harpswell,
Orr's, and Bailey islands, and
Cundy's Harbor.
The program operates
MC1, a licensed emergency vehicle.
When responding to a call, MC1
has the same Code 3 privileges as an
ambulance, fire truck, or police
car.
MC1 is NOT an ambulance; it does not transport
patients. MC1 and its paramedic staff create a "virtual
emergency room" at the scene of an
accident or other medical emergency. MC1 responds to an average of five calls
a week, but is much busier in summer. During the day, MC1 roams the Bath-Brunswick
area, ready for any emergency. In case of life-threatening emergencies,
such as chest pain or shortness of breath,
please call 911 for your nearest local
Emergency Medical Services (EMS). If you
have any question about the severity of
an emergency, call 911. EMS teams can save
lives in critical situations. |
