Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary Selects 2021 Herb Paris Health Career Scholarship Recipients

Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary Scholarships
Tilly Atkins, Chair of the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Committee and Samantha Balestrieri, CCMA, one of nine 2021 Herb Paris Health Career Scholarship recipients.

The Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary has selected this year’s recipients of the Herb Paris Health Career Scholarships. After a thorough evaluation of 29 applicants, nine new recipients were selected to receive scholarships.

The Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary is committed to providing health career scholarships for Midcoast area students attending four-year colleges, technical colleges, or other specialized training. Any student pursuing a career in the healthcare field is eligible to apply for these funds.

The selection process includes consideration of scholars who are entering health career programs, as well as the Auxiliary’s ongoing commitment to previous recipients. For fiscal year 2022, the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary will provide a total of $40,000 to support 24 continuing scholars in addition to the nine recent additions.

After carefully reviewing each application, committee members awarded four scholarships to high school graduates, and five to non-traditional students. Three of the high school students will be studying to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing to become nurses, with one student that will be completing a course to become a paramedic.

The non-traditional students are all employees of Mid Coast–Parkview Health. Three of these students will be earning their Bachelor of Science in Nursing, one will be training to become a respiratory therapist, and one is studying to become a paramedic.

"The selection process is always so challenging because every student is deserving of these funds,” said Tilly Atkins, Chair of the Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Committee. "We are grateful to be able to select as many as we did, especially given the financial impacts of COVID-19 on our fundraising efforts this year.”
