Mid Coast Hospital Nursing Care
Philosophy and Values
Nurses at Mid Coast Hospital embrace a passion for excellence in patient care and nursing practice. We are here for the patient; it is all about the patient.
This is achieved through creating an outstanding professional practice environment for clinical nurses. This professional practice environment is accomplished through a commitment to excellent leadership and management practices and our shared governance philosophy.
It is guided by the use of evidenced-based practice, a robust ongoing education program and support of clinical inquiry and research.
Relationship-Based Care is the professional model that guides our practice. Nurses recognize that their purpose is to care for patients and families. Attention to the needs of patients and their families contributes to successful outcomes.
Outstanding outcomes are achieved when patients feel safe within a trusting relationship. The nurse-patient relationship is strengthened through continuity of care and collaboration of interdisciplinary teams. Strong, collaborative relationships improve satisfaction for both the patient and the staff. Our framework is comprised of seven elements.
Caring and Healing Environment
Relationships, systems, and the physical environment contribute to health and wellbeing for ourselves, our colleagues, and those we serve.
Community
Mid Coast Hospital is first and foremost dedicated to the communities it serves. It participates in local and statewide initiatives that contribute to addressing community healthcare needs.
Leadership
Leaders know the vision, act with purpose, help resolve system issues, and consistently hold patients, families, and health care team members as their highest priority. They are role models for caring behaviors and empowerment.
Teamwork
Teamwork requires a group of diverse members from all disciplines and departments to define and embrace a shared purpose and to work together with trust and mutual respect.
Outcomes
Specific measurable outcomes are identified and collected using LEAN methodology to demonstrate achievement of the vision. Relationship-Based Care drives patient satisfaction, clinical quality, safety, and staff engagement and guides continuous improvement.
Professional Practice
Professional practice calls each clinical professional to bring their full scope of practice into collaboration with other disciplines. The impact is expert clinical and compassionate care to individuals and their loved one.
Care Delivery
The patient care delivery system is the infrastructure for organizing and providing care to patients and families. The system is built upon the concepts and values of professional practice.
Outcome Measurement
Mid Coast-Parkview Health is committed to the health and wellness of our community. Wellness is included in the 2020 Hospital Vision with the aim of providing wellness-focused programming and a healthy work environment to support patients and employees in their efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Resources
Resource-driven practice is one which maximizes all available resources: staff, time, equipment, systems, and budget.
