Staying Safe and Healthy During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Mid Coast Hospital COVID-19 Update

In the wake of COVID-19, the past four months have been strange and stressful for all. Now that Maine has taken several measures to re-open the economy, it is important to remember that our country is still in the midst of an unpredictable pandemic.

It remains vitally important to practice physical distancing whenever possible and to wear a cloth face covering while out in public, especially in places where maintaining six feet of distance from other people is not possible. Everyone should also be washing their hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being out in public, and avoid touching their face with unwashed hands.

To ensure everyone has a face mask to wear, Mid Coast–Parkview Health offers free cloth masks to anyone in our community who needs one. We are also accepting donations of cloth masks. Masks can be picked up or dropped off just inside the Main Entrance of Mid Coast Hospital’s Parkview Campus, located at 329 Maine Street–South Entrance in Brunswick, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. To arrange mailing, please call (207) 373-6064.

While staying home as much as possible and keeping distance from people outside your household is still the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19, isolation and a slower-paced lifestyle can also take its toll on your physical and mental health.

The World Health Organization has launched a wellness campaign known as #HealthyAtHome, which gives people tips on staying healthy during this unprecedented time. Some of these tips are very simple, such as taking a three- to four-minute break from sitting for a quick walk or stretch, yet they can have a big impact.

The website also gives advice on looking after your mental health during this time through maintaining a daily routine, limiting alcohol intake and screen time, and minimizing news consumption, among other measures. For these resources and information on other topics, such as quitting smoking and healthy parenting during the pandemic, please visit www.who.int.

Additionally, like healthcare organizations around the world, Mid Coast–Parkview Health has had to adjust the way we deliver care during the pandemic. We have loosened some restrictions since the start of the pandemic, but several remain in place and will for the foreseeable future. For the most updated information on our COVID-19 response, visit www.midcoasthealth.com/covid19.

As you do your part to protect yourself and others in your community from contracting COVID-19, please be sure to take the rest of your health into account as well.
